LG Electronics of South Korea has introduced a new series of heat pumps designed specifically for domestic water heating. They’re versatile enough to be set up everywhere from garages to kitchens to launderettes to toilets.
Therma V models are available with either a 200-liter or 270-liter water heating capacity. The COP of the 200-liter variant is 3.30 at 7 C and 3.50 at 15 C. There is a 3.45 COP at 7 C and a 3.85 COP at 15 C for the 270-liter version.
A minimum of 2 kW at 230 V is required to power the electric heat pumps. The 200-liter version uses 756 kWh annually at 7 C and 709 kWh annually at 15 C in terms of energy. The annual energy use for the bigger model is 712 kWh at 7 C and 646 kWh at 15 C.
According to LG’s official website, the air source heat pump generates hot water using just 25% of power and 75% of air energy. It has a compressor from LG called a “Dual inverter” that has two rotors.
LG says in the product data sheet that the noise level is drastically lowered in comparison to a single rotary compressor due to the fact that the twin rotaries balance each other when revolving at high speed. In terms of decibel levels, the heat pump is roughly on par with a refrigerator.
The Therma V 200L is 100 kg in weight and has dimensions of 580 mm by 1,625 mm by 582 mm. The 270 L version is 119 kg and has dimensions of 580 x 2,008 x 582 mm. In a temperature range of -5 C to 48 C, they are able to function normally. R134a, a refrigerant having a GWP of 1,430, is used in the gadgets.
The water tank and compressor in the new system are covered by a 10-year guarantee.
