This week, Longi announced that its perovskite-silicon tandem solar cell has reached a 33.9% efficiency in power conversion.

According to the business, NREL has verified the findings, which they say set a new world record for this specific type of cell. The previous record was held by Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), which attained a 33.7% efficiency for a device with the identical design in June.

This is what Li Zhenguo, the president of Longi, said: “The theoretical efficiency of perovskite-silicon tandem cells is 43%, which makes them the most feasible alternative to current mono-junction silicon cells.” He did not go into any technical details.

In June, Longi stated that the efficiency of the same cell was 33.5%. The European Solar Test Installation (ESTI) confirmed the findings to be a significant improvement over its prior 31.8% efficiency rating at the SNEC conference in late May in Shanghai, China.

Since April 2021, Longi has 15 times set a new world record for solar cell efficiency. In November 2022, it boasted that a certain type of heterojunction silicon solar cell it had developed had the highest efficiency rating in the world at 26.81%.
