Research firm Sunwiz has issued a list of Australia’s top solar panel and inverter manufacturers, as well as data about purchase trends into 2022.
After a precipitous decline from the fourth quarter of 2021 to the first quarter of 2022, Sunwiz predicted that by the end of 2022, top Chinese manufacturers would have regained part of their market share from “luxury” brands. After losing over 80% of the market in the second half of 2021, Chinese brands finished the year above 70%.
After a meteoric rise in the third and fourth quarters of 2021, sales of “premium” brands and other manufacturers slowly declined during 2022.
Similarly, by the end of 2022, many manufacturers, particularly Chinese SMEs, were in better shape than they had been throughout most of 2021.

Leading Chinese inverter manufacturers reached a high point in their combined market share in the middle of 2022, before easing back slightly toward the end of the year, said Sunwiz.
In contrast, European inverter brands slumped towards the middle of the year but recovered some lost ground by year’s end.
Overall, the year was relatively steady for module-level power electronics (MLPE), with a slight increase in the first quarter and a comparable decrease in the last quarter.
Similarly, the percentage of the inverter market held by other companies hardly budged all through 2022.
