Canadian Solar

History

Dr. Shawn Qu, Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer, started Canadian Solar (NASDAQ: CSIQ) in Canada in 2001 with a big goal: to make the world a better place for future generations by giving millions of people around the world access to electricity powered by the sun. Under the direction of Dr. Qu, we’ve grown to become one of the world’s largest providers of solar photovoltaic products and energy solutions, as well as one of the world’s largest developers of solar power plants. We have sold more than 75 GW of solar modules to thousands of customers in more than 160 countries. This is enough clean, green energy to power about 17.7 million homes. More than 13,500 hardworking employees work every day to make this mission come true. Customers choose us because we give them the best value for their money. Our modules and system solutions have the best quality and lowest prices on the market. And our solar projects always have the highest levels of production and returns on investment. Canadian Solar (CSIQ) has 26 GW of solar projects and 31 GWh of storage projects in the works, and it is in a unique position to develop projects and provide complete solar solutions that are ready to go. By bundling services for the whole project life cycle—feasibility study, permits, developing, engineering, procurement, construction, and maintenance—we can make things much easier and cheaper for industrial and commercial customers. In 2020, we sold $230 million worth of convertible bonds and raised $260 million for the planned IPO of the Company’s MSS business. It will help us quickly grow our manufacturing capacity and give us access to the most advanced technologies. This will help us reach our goal of shipping 20 GW to 22 GW and 1.8 GWh to 1.9 GWh of battery storage in 2022.
