China continues to dominate the global solar market, reaching a new milestone in 2024 with PV module exports surpassing 235GW. According to the latest data from Chinese customs, the country exported 7.79 billion solar cells last year—an impressive 38.2% increase compared to 2023.
Steady Growth in Solar Exports
For the fourth consecutive year, China’s export value of PV products has exceeded RMB 200 billion, marking a new record. Daliang Lv, spokesperson for the General Administration of Customs and director of the Department of Statistics and Analysis, highlighted this remarkable achievement.
Market research firm InfoLink further analyzed customs data, revealing that from January to December 2024, China exported 235.93GW of PV modules—an increase of 13% compared to the 207.99GW exported in 2023. December alone saw exports of 16.63GW, a 9% rise from November’s 15.2GW.
Regional Market Performance in 2024
While most regions saw growth in Chinese PV module imports, Europe was the only market that declined, experiencing a 7% drop. Other regions showed significant increases:
- Middle East: 99% growth (28.79GW vs. 14.46GW in 2023)
- Africa: 43% growth (11.36GW vs. 7.94GW in 2023)
- Asia-Pacific: 26% growth (68.11GW vs. 53.93GW in 2023)
- Americas: 10% growth (33.28GW vs. 30.18GW in 2023)
Pakistan emerged as a key player in the Asia-Pacific region, importing 16.91GW of Chinese PV modules—an astonishing 127% increase from 7.47GW in 2023.
Brazil Leads the Americas Market
In the Americas, Brazil maintained its dominance, accounting for 68% of the region’s total PV module imports. Chile followed, contributing 7% with 2.48GW in imports.
