The purpose of the conference was to facilitate the achievement of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development through the creation of a global energy interconnection and a new energy system.
Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Dr. Mohamed Shaker, met with President Li during the conference and discussed Egypt’s plans for the future growth of renewable energy. The Egyptian government is committed to expanding green hydrogen and green ammonia projects in order to meet Egypt’s national goal of achieving a 42% share of renewable energy in its energy mix by 2035. To this end, the Egyptian government has proposed the implementation of renewable energy projects using a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) model.
With the ambitious goal of implementing over 120 GW of renewable energy projects by 2030, Dr. Shaker disclosed that the government is currently in discussions regarding projects of substantial scale, with some reaching 40 GW, highlighting the country’s proactive approach to promoting the synergistic combination of green electricity and green hydrogen. The plan is to increase the country’s foreign currency earnings by developing green hydrogen and green ammonia solutions for sale in Europe and other areas.
President Li gave an update on LONGI’s progress, emphasizing the company’s position as a pioneer in cutting-edge technology throughout the world. He continued by saying that a partnership between LONGI, which possesses the world’s most sophisticated technology, and Egypt, which possesses excellent land and light resources, may considerably speed up the transition to new energy in Egypt.
When asked about his thoughts on the future of the energy industry, Li said that he believes the world is heading towards a green and clean revolution, which bodes well for business. In light of this bright forecast, he revealed that by the end of 2023, LONGI will have increased its monocrystalline silicon wafer manufacturing capacity to 190 GW, its cell production capacity to 110 GW, and its module production capacity to 130 GW. He also highlighted the company’s rapid expansion of its hydrogen energy sector, which will reach a production capacity of 2.5 GW by 2023. This is in keeping with the company’s optimism regarding the promising future of renewable energy sources in the context of the worldwide push for sustainability.
