According to a statement given to APP by an official working for the Ministry of Railways, “the step is expected to save Rs 1.8 billion in the first phase.” Later on, more stations, offices, and other amenities would be added in the succeeding phases of the project.
He stated that initially, in the first phase, the Pakistan Railways aimed to convert around 99 formations, such as important railway stations, nine divisional headquarters, and other essential offices, to run on solar power.
He stated that the PR was intending to convert its network to a solar system by employing the services of the National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK), which is located in Pakistan.
According to the official, the department has made the decision to switch the power source for the railway network to solar energy in order to reduce the financial burden.
On the other hand, in response to the current energy crisis as well as the rise in the cost of electricity bills, the management of PR has enacted a policy that forbids its personnel from using air conditioners before 11 in the morning.
