Trina solar has secured the No. 1 spot in IPRdaily’s Global Perovskite Solar Cell Patent Ranking with 481 patent applications. The company also ranks second globally for solar cell & module patents and in the Topcon solar cell category.
Perovskite solar cells are seen as the next big thing in solar technology — offering higher efficiency and lower manufacturing costs compared to traditional silicon cells. Since 2014, Trinasolar has heavily invested in this space and partnered with Fudan University to set up a State Key Laboratory for PV Science and Technology.
In 2025 alone, Trinasolar has broken multiple world records in perovskite-silicon tandem cell efficiency and module output. The company also holds an exclusive license from Oxford PV to develop and commercialize perovskite and tandem technologies in mainland China.
Combining perovskite with TOPCon technology is showing strong potential for boosting solar efficiency further — and Trinasolar is leading the charge with rapid growth in patents.
Chairman Gao Jifan said, Innovation is our core driver. We’ll continue to push the boundaries of PV tech and contribute to the global energy transition.
