The Institute is one of the biggest professional expert organisations in the world. It is based in New York, USA. It began in the year 1963. In 2014, the Institute started the Young Professional Award, which was later called the IEEE Stuart R. Wenham Young Professional Award in honour of Prof. Stuart Wenham. The award is given every year to a person who has made important contributions to the science and technology of converting solar energy, such as by working on PV materials, devices, modules, or systems.
As Trina Solar’s technical boss, Dr. Chen is in charge of the research and development (R&D) team. His job is to support new technology and get it ready for mass production. Trina Solar has set 25 world records in terms of how well solar cells convert light into electricity and how much power a module can put out. In mass production, the efficiency of the 210mm n-type i-TOPCon cell has hit 25.3%, which is good for users and the PV industry as a whole.
On June 11, 2018, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, USA, the 50th IEEE PVSC will be held. Dr. Chen will get the award and give a long talk about how high-performing 210mm n-type i-TOPCon cells and modules can be. Dr. Chen said, “This award is also an honour of Trina Solar and, in particular, every worker on the R&D team. In the future, we will speed up the manufacturing of high-efficiency technologies and encourage the use of high-efficiency, stable Vertex modules.
Dr. Chen also won the “SiliconPV Award” at the SiliconPV meeting in Hameln, Germany, and the “Young Researcher Award” at the World meeting on Photovoltaic Energy Conversion (WCPEC) in Kyoto, Japan.
This award fully recognises the work that Dr. Chen and his team have done to develop high-efficiency solar cells and modules. It also shows that Trina Solar is a world leader in PV technology. Trina Solar will do more research and development on its improved high-efficiency 210/210R goods using n-type i-TOPCon technology. This will help the company make products that work better and are worth more to customers around the world.
