In an exciting breakthrough for the solar industry, Trinasolar has announced the development of the world’s first solar PV module capable of delivering over 800W of power. The new module, featuring cutting-edge perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells, has achieved an impressive peak power output of 808W.

Certified by TÜV SÜD, this 3.1m² module utilizes 210mm x 105mm perovskite/silicon tandem cells, marking a significant step toward the industrialization of tandem modules. Trina’s Chairman and CEO, Gao Jifan, highlighted the achievement as a major milestone, emphasizing its importance in pushing the boundaries of solar technology.

As traditional silicon-based solar cell efficiency approaches its theoretical maximum, the focus has shifted to tandem cells for even higher efficiency. Perovskite tandem technology, with potential efficiencies reaching up to 43%, represents a game-changing leap in solar innovation. The success of Trinasolar’s new module signals a potential shift from conventional silicon-based cells to more advanced tandem solutions, paving the way for sustainable development in solar energy.

Trinasolar has been at the forefront of this technology for over a decade, working closely with research institutions like Nanjing University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Their commitment to innovation is evident in their portfolio of 331 patents related to tandem technology. Through ongoing research, they continue to enhance the efficiency of tandem cells using techniques such as perovskite bulk doping and interface engineering.

This breakthrough from Trinasolar not only reinforces their leadership in the solar industry but also sets a new benchmark for future PV innovations.
