In reaction to media stories speculating that the government may switch from net metering to a new system known as gross metering, the minister made his comments.
With net metering, solar-powered customers may resell any extra energy they produce to their utility provider. Their power expenses are reduced as a result of this strategy.
In contrast, power from solar panels owned by customers would be sent straight into the national grid under the planned gross metering scheme. The distribution business would then have to sell the power back to the consumers, thereby decreasing their financial gains.
Minister Leghari refuted the media accusations while speaking with reporters at the Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) headquarters. He underlined that the net-metering programme was started under previous Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s leadership and guaranteed that the administration is in favour of it being carried out.
The minister reaffirmed the government’s dedication to supporting solar energy and gave customers the assurance that the benefits they currently get from the net-metering programme will continue. In addition, he emphasised the significance of renewable energy in Pakistan’s energy mix and restated government initiatives to promote the use of solar power nationwide.
